Do you ever fell like you need some affirmation when you are told to go do something and then you are not sure if you are doing right?
Affirmation goes along way to uplifting the spirit, making someone productive, and they have even named it as one of the five love languages.
We have been studying Goliath Must Fall by Louie Giglio in our lifegroup at church and I have been posting pictures with scriptures related to this on my Instagram feed. We are currently in our second week of the study. When I got up on Monday I checked my phone, I am sure like all of you do, and behold I had notifications from Instagram that people had liked my posts. so I clicked on the notifications and can you guess who it was???? Holy Cow!! I got a like from Louie Giglio himself! What the what! I am pretty sure I was yelling down the stairs and my husband didn’t know what was going on. Usually Mondays are long days for me at work but this made my day! I think it’s great for him to recognize a nobody from Tennessee with a like on Instagram!
The affirmation for me was like I was soaring or had just reach one of those peaks in life and you are breathing in the crisp air. Do you know what I am talking about? It was hard for anything to ruin my day. Of course you go on in life behold the next couple of days are some of the mundane, no more likes from a superstar, but who knows maybe next time.
The affirmation we seek should always be from our Heavenly Father, not from those around us. Let me tell you I am preaching to the choir here. This week has been about affirmation for me and learning to look from God not from people. This is the hardest thing for most of us to do, including me. We all want to be accepted, liked, promoted, etc…We work hard at our jobs to please our bosses, we work hard around the house to keep it clean just in case someone comes over, and if you are involved in church you work hard at the ministry you are in. If you are married we also want to work hard in our marriages to make sure that we lift each other up as well. This may be the hardest out of all the ones listed. Your spouse knows you the best, knows your buttons (whether good or bad to push), and how to meet your needs.
I would encourage you in all these areas to live each day
- Just one day at a time
- Thinking more about putting God first in all things, most times we have selfish tendencies and it gets in the way
- Be like Mater, the most affirming character I know and be encouraging daily!
Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing- 1 Thess. 5:11
