What would it have been like to have been the first at everything? There would have been no other woman to share in your journey, bad days, sorrows, joys, experiences. Can you imagine? I like to call my mom and share things with her, all the above actually as I am sure you do. Eve had no one other than Adam to do this with. She had God but not in a physical sense of the word once outside of the garden. She was the first to be a wife, mom, grandmother, and to sin. There is no pressure right!
Her story can be found in Genesis 2:18-28, 3-4
God created Eve to be a helpmate to Adam. He also instituted marriage at this point between two people. They were take care of each other, to love each other, and to have the intimacy of a couple. (yes it’s in there) They bible states they were made perfect for each other and then Satan comes along to ruin that perfect union between God and man. God gave a choice to Adam and Eve whether or not to eat of the tree. Just as He gives us all choices daily. There are days we act without thinking or asking should we do this or go here. When we should have stopped and taken time to really pray and ask God is this what you want? Even talk to your spouse or family about decisions before you make a choice that could affect the outcome of your life for a long time.
You have heard the old saying what you do know can have consequences down the road? This was true for Adam and Eve and was true for their children. After the fall women have the privilege of childbirth with labor pains, we as a human race are separated from God, and we can’t live in the Garden of Eden. The good news is that God loves us so much, unconditionally, that He made a way for us to be reunited with Him again and offered total forgiveness to Eve and us. John 14:6 says “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” This is Jesus speaking to the disciples just before his arrest. God gave His son as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. If you don’t know Him as your Saviour please talk with a friend/pastor or contact me and I would be happy to speak with you about any questions you have.
In events throughout the Bible you can find God’s grace even in His judgement. With Eve as he was giving out a sentence of death and labor pains there is the fact that the human race will go on. The really neat fact is that only an awesome God would create an experience like childbearing that could have an earthly and unearthly combination. The earthly part- the pain, the mess of birth and the unearthly part- the making of another person with the connection between mother and baby which only the Creator could do. Then you have Solomon that came out of David’s sin with Bathsheba. He was the wisest king to ever live and Israel had one of the most peaceful times during his reign. There are many more but the point is that we serve a gracious Lord who loves His children. He is forgiving and we are given second chances everyday. Have you thanked God for the awesome gift of grace He so willing gave us lately? Have you thanked Him for your children/family?
