I have often wondered what it would be like to walk in someone else’s shoes for awhile. To live their life that from my perspective looks a lot better and more blessed than mine. They have more things…
- Better house
- Better car
- Nicer clothes
- Go on luxury vacations
- Have awesome friends
- Great job
The list could go on and on with the things we look at and compare ourselves to. It’s the Jones’ complex where we have to have it better than our neighbor and one up the other person.
Just about the time I am wishing for another life something happens (a conversation, I over hear that person complain about their perfect life, etc…) and I am allowed to see just for a moment inside that person’s life and know that I am good right where God has placed me. Those moments of revelation come from just listening or watching, nothing big but you see, Wow! I am so glad I am not person.
Comparison happens all through the Bible with Rachel and Leah, Hannah, Mary and Martha, just to name a few. Some where looking at the other because of beauty with they thought they not could possess, some were jealous of what they could not do (have a child). While others were so worried about the work the one wasn’t doing she lost sight of the most important thing, her Lord.
What are you jealous of? What you looking at other people’s lives wishing you had? Have you looked at you own life and even found contentment?
Contentment and security only come from Christ and having a relationship with Him. We have all we will will ever need in Him. Now I know we want things and possessions. Believe me I do too but when we center our hearts around Christ the jealousy fades away. God will also provide those desires of our heart and our heart will align with His.
Psalm 37:4-5 says Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this.
